A gradual unveiling of services began in May 2004 and continues through March 2005. Our goal is to build and sustain these services first in Mesa, Arizona and later branch out to the larger community.

In June, 2003, Women In New Recovery ( WINR ), a reputable recovery home for women, received a grant from SAMHSA (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.) With this grant, Our Common Welfare came into inception to offer peer-driven support services for people who are in recovery from alcohol and/or drug addiction. (A PEER is defined as a person who is in recovery.)

Focus group and survey research was conducted in Maricopa and Yavapai County to determine the needs of the recovering community. With this community gathering of needs, services were then designed based on feedback from recovering peers, family members of recovering individuals and various stakeholders throughout the community. With training and stakeholder guidance, peer leaders are given the opportunity to support other individuals in recovery and use their experience to help bring attention to the importance of recovery within our community.
